The Redspan Story
Redspan Dance Company was formed in 2006 by choreographer Feng Feng Wang and producer Gus Macmillan. The company consists of dancers of Asian and Australian backgrounds with the aim of spanning the divide between traditional Chinese and modern art-forms, blending Feng Feng's background in Chinese dance with more contemporary Western inluences. In searching for an original character and style, Redspan expresses a complex and subtle aesthetic, one which provides intimacy, elegance, simplicity and abstract grace.
In 2006, Red Span Dance company partcipated in Full Tilt, a new funding initiative by the Arts Centre. The Full Tilt programme provided Red Span Dance Company with the resources to further develop the work Xing and the opportunity to show the progress of the work in the Blackbox.
Red Span Dance Company performed Xing and The Treasure at the Casula Powerhouse on September 11th, 12th & 13th 2008 as part of Mulitcultural Arts Victoria's Kultour program
Feng Feng Wang also participated in Terrain 08 in November 2008, curated by Multicultural Arts Victoria and Ausdance, where she developed the proof of concept for the piece Vista, which will be going into full development in November 2009.
